"IT IS I"
How many people do you know that could say "It Is I" and cause a positive reaction in your life? Could your Dad say "It is I" and cause your fearful heart to find peace? Could your mother say, "It is I" and cause your flowing tears to cease? Could one of your grandchildren say "It is I" and cause your wrinkled face to brighten with a smile? Could a friend say "It is I" and cause a warmth to come over you in a cold, sad day?
Jesus used these three words in Matthew 14:27 to encourage his frightened disciples. The storm had caused a fear to creep into their hearts and they needed, desperately needed encouragement. Jesus was able to give them that needed strength with these simple words, "It is I".
Why did this have such a positive effect on these, all so human, men. Why should it still have a positive effect on doubtful believers today? We are also "battered by the waves" of life. The sadness of death, the fear of illness, the apprehension of financial loss. We are effected by the contrary winds of our lives. We need to hear Him say, "It is I" before we panic in life's storm.
The effect of these words were so positive because they realized they lacked the power to control the events in their lives. We must realize that only Jesus calms certain storms in our lives. We need to be reminded that only in Him are all things possible.
Let me tell you the complete statement that Jesus made as He approached this frightened group, of almost believers, stranded in a boat, on the sea, in the midst of a storm. Much like the storm you may find yourself in as you are reading these thoughts.
"Take courage! It is I, don't be afraid". Matthew 14:27
Thank you, Jesus. I needed to hear you say that because I, too am afraid.

Pray with me: Lord, it is I and I ask you to give me the wisdom to know your will and the courage to do it.
