Think About It...

Think About It…

“He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully”. 2 Cor. 9:6

As I walk down the hall, I stopped a nurse and asked, “Do you know which room Brother Smith, pardon me, I mean John Smith is in?” “Of course, he is in Room 218. What a delightful man!” As I talked with John, he told me how nice everyone is to him. He asked me to pray for them because it was a hard job caring for so many older folks. A nurse came in to take blood and was introduced by John as one of the gentlest vampires he had ever met. She smiled and blushed a little under the limelight of his praise. It was no surprise to see the wonderful loving care John received. Everyone knew which room was his and those who cared for him thought of him as a friend, not just another patient.

As they introduced the faculty there was polite applause. As the principal read his list, he would pause, and then continue reading, but when Mr. Johnson’s name was mentioned, there was an eruption of boisterous shouts and thundering applause. One of the parents was heard to comment, “The kids really do love him”. I leaned over and asked why. The startled parent waited a moment and then replied, “Because he loves them”.

The award was one for character. It was the kind of award parents and teachers consider important. The students had voted and now were waiting for the announcement. Finally the name was read and everyone smiled and clapped. I asked one of the students, “Why do you think he was the winner?” He looked at me with that patient look that a child gives and adult when they think you are not quite in tune with the real world, and replied “because he is nice to everyone.”

Smiles are nice – I think I’ll give some away. Compliments are good – here have some. Encouragement is often needed – I can share some with you. Trust is often wanted – so I better show trust to others. Everyone needs more love so here take some of mine. I know I’ll get it back.

What you sow you will reap, what you give you will get!
